Kora warns Hokoria cannot continue as it is

Hokoria

The Kora has warned that Hokoria is becoming increasingly difficult to sustain, months after first raising concerns about the decline of the nation’s community.

In a statement to the nation, Willow said Hokoria’s Government was effectively “non-existent”, with much of the responsibility for keeping the country running falling to her.

“I have nothing against the incumbent PM and Parliament, but it’s disappointing to see the lack of participation beyond perhaps three of our elected officials,” she said.

A problem months in the making

It isn’t the first time the Kora has raised concerns about Hokoria’s future.

In June, Willow warned that Hokoria had become “a nation without a people”, saying attempts to turn it into a more formal nation had come at the expense of the community on which it was founded.

“We have lost our joy and whimsey,” she said at the time, announcing a plan to rebuild Hokoria around the principle of being “a community first, a nation second”.

“It genuinely feels like Hokoria is on its deathbed,” she said, pointing to the financial and personal cost of running the nation alongside a shortage of people willing to take on government responsibilities.

Why Vistaria?

Earlier this week, Willow proposed legislation which would have allowed the public to vote on transferring Dama and Serenia to the Kingdom of Vistaria and dissolving the Hokorian State.

The proposal received the support of just two MPs and failed to reach the threshold required to proceed to a referendum. Willow has now revealed that the possibility had been under consideration for some time, including in discussions with Governor of Serenia Christopher Slant.

Under the plans, responsibilities including citizenship, foreign affairs and justice could be handled centrally by Vistaria, while Dama and Serenia would retain their own governments.

Despite Parliament rejecting the proposal, Willow said she continues to believe it is “the best option”. She acknowledged people may be sad to see Hokoria cease to exist as it does today, but said that would not necessarily be permanent.

“There would be nothing stopping Hokoria from existing again in the future, should things improve enough”

For now, no changes will take place. The Kora has invited both the public and MPs to ask questions and take part in further discussions about Hokoria’s future.
