A ‘devastating’ attack

Yesterday at around 3pm local time, shots were fired from a car driving around the main square. Multiple people and horses were injured, with six people losing their lives.

The attacker, identified by police as a 25 year old Polish national, wore a military-style uniform and used a military-grade weapon in the attack. He was arrested and remains in custody.

He was stopped by police at the junction of ul. Dietla and ul. Stradomska, an 11 minute drive from Vistaria-proper. Two officers, named as Senior Constable Jakub Kulik and Senior Constable Artur Morański, were injured while bravely arresting the attacker. One is in a serious condition.

Kora witnesses arrest

Her Majesty the Kora, Willow of Vistaria was on a tram when the attack happened. Her train passed where the attacker was stopped.

In her statement yesterday, she described seeing people assisting police in detaining the suspect and attending to the injured officers.

One video circulating online shows an officer, injured, shooting the attack before he applied a tourniquet to himself and then collapsed.

In a statement to The Dam Times, the Kora said “It was crazy, we didn’t know what we were seeing. Everyone on the tram was looking. We had assumed that it had been a crash, since we had seen the suspect’s vehicle crashed. We later found out what we had really seen. It’s difficult to think about, knowing that I was walking on that street earlier. We nearly went back earlier and would have been in the square when the attack happened. It’s really difficult to think about.”
